Celebrating 250 Years of American Innovation & Independence

In 2026, the United States will mark its Semiquincentennial—the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Across the country, communities, cultural institutions, and historic sites are preparing to honor this milestone. Here in Ohio, the America 250-Ohio Commission is leading statewide efforts to showcase our state’s unique role in shaping the nation’s past, present, and future.

The Thomas Edison Birthplace Museum is proud to be a participating site, highlighting Edison’s lasting impact as one of the most influential inventors in American history.

The Lake Erie to Ohio River Trail

We are honored to be a stop on the Lake Erie to Ohio River Trail, one of America 250-Ohio’s signature Trails & Tales experiences. This new experiential driving trail features more than 150 sites across Ohio that tell the story of how waterways shaped our communities, industries, and culture.

The trail highlights seven themes:

Lake Erie Museums & Historic Sites
Ohio Canal Museums, Locks, & Historic Sites
Ohio River Museums & Historic Sites
Natural Areas & Overlooks
Aquatic Science & Research Sites
